Song Community Development Corporation’s Mission
Our mission is rooted in the Vietnamese-American experience
We work to pursue the full liberation of BIPOC across all intersectional identities in vulnerable communities in Southern Louisiana.
Together with community partners, our justice work encompasses climate, food, education, housing, workforce, as well as culture and arts.
In striving toward resilience and racial equity, restructuring the rules of economic disparity and setting up anti-racist policies are simply not enough. Lifting up and celebrating the culture and lived experiences of BIPOC communities ensures that diversity, equity and inclusion are true assets in creating effective solutions.
Song CDC prioritizes the direct input of those with lived experiences to guide our programming from development to implementation and evaluation. Our work and strategies are a direct result of BIPOC residents’ priorities gathered from ongoing community conversations, dialogues and surveys.
Centering equity and advancing innovation, we work to improve the quality of life of residents in New Orleans East through three intentional strategies:
-
Equitable Community Development
Our aim is to build vibrant communities with a focus on revitalizing disinvested communities
-
Community Services and Programs
We connect ecosystems to streamline immediate assistance and provide ongoing services to vulnerable families; key activities include disaster response, community outreach, and responsive community programs/projects.
-
Policy and Advocacy
We identify critical issues that resonate with our community and allies that are informed by learnings from our services and programs. The dialogue we hold with the community shapes our community-driven planning.
